treasure island music festival

this past sunday i ventured over to treasure island by way of free bus to take in some preferable tunes. it was a lovely day. the obvious view of the bay, plus gorgeous weather (a little breezy later but not bad for san francisco) were added perks. the highlights of my day as follows:

performance by fleet foxes, whom i saw for the first time. and loved.the kills; alison mosshart is a wild animal. they say nothing in between songs just writhe and glare on stage. in amazing leather jackets.jack white. i mean the raconteurs. i took 90 blurry streaky pictures of jack during the set.

there was a heavy presence of authentic 70s duds. the best way i can describe it is if you went back in the future, like marty mcFly and met your parents. you cant talk to them because it would completely change the course of your future, but they have cool clothes. teen love...the uniform for the day: lots of boot & scarf combosthis girl hesitantly but patiently let me take her photo. i really liked her dress geez...

Jamie Livingston

Jamie Livingston (October 25, 1956 - October 25, 1997) was a New York-based photographer, film-maker and circus performer. Between March 31, 1979 and October 25, 1997, the day of his death, he took a single picture nearly every day with a Polaroid camera.

Livingston's 'Polaroid a Day' photographic diary started at Bard College and though some photos have gone missing from the collection, 6,697 Polaroids remain. The collection, dated in sequence, has been organized by his friends Hugh Crawford and Betsy Reid into an exhibit at the Bertelsmann Campus Center at Bard College called "JAMIE LIVINGSTON. latest 'n' greatest

sometimes i'm lucky and i find a perfect combination of form and function in a shoe. this time it has come to me in the form of a moccasin bootie, courtesy of target brand exhilaration. only 30 bucks! (plus shipping, being there is no convenient target in san francisco) the flaps can be worn either up or down. with a mini dress? or real skinny jeans and a button up shirt? or pajamas...

gerard the giraffe

in the last few weeks i made my first stuffed animal ever: a ragamuffin giraffe named gerard made from vintage cotton fabric and yarn. my friendis having a baby boy in november, so i wanted to make something in blue, but a little more fun than your average teddy bear. i began by googling giraffe images, and from that formed a rough sketch, then jumped right into haphazardly cutting the fabric. i wanted the outcome to be a little imperfect, which lucky for me his neck naturally turns to the side. this was the most fun i've had working on a project in a while!

giraffes are funny-looking animals, in my opinion, rivaling ostriches ...

frida at the moma

i went to see the frida kahlo exhibit at the sf moma and was awestruck. she was obviously talented, but mysterious, beautiful, intelligent, eccentric, articulate, and humble to boot. the exhibit is divided into time slots for visitors, crowd control i guess, and is departing september 28! i highly recommend hustling over to see it. i myself was inspired to go home and sketch, make jewelry, sew... and find frida-esque pieces for wearing. enjoy!

calling all donkeys!

latest purchase here, i cant wait to wear it. appropriate for the office, the cocktail party, the grocery store, and the gym. the logo is cool, the colors crisp, and really everyone looks good in gray. and the $ it raises to register young voters isn't a bad perk either....
